In December 2010 I returned yet again to the Drakensberg, a place of fresh air, energy and endless painting opportunities.

The day I captured this scene the clouds formed the perfect composition. Being a realist I endeavoured to portray the elements I saw before me that had given me so much pleasure and a sense of well-being.

It was the first time I had worked on a 3m x 2m canvas which would invite the viewer to experience the vast expanse of the majestic Drakensberg.  A window into the daily lives of the community nestled at the foot of this world heritage site, as they go about their daily business as it has been for hundreds if not thousands of years.
